In the distant future, humans are declared "illegal residents" and hunted to near extinction by murderous robots. One day, a group of human scavengers come across a strange man named Killy, who may be the key to humanity's survival. In the distant technological future, civilization has reached its ultimate Net-based form. An "infection" in the past caused the automated systems to spiral out of order, resulting in a multi-leveled city structure that replicates itself infinitely in all directions. Now humanity has lost access to the city's controls, and is hunted down and purged by the defense system known as the Safeguard. In a tiny corner of the city, a little enclave known as the Electro-Fishers is facing eventual extinction, trapped between the threat of the Safeguard and dwindling food supplies. A girl named Zuru goes on a journey to find food for her village, only to inadvertently cause doom when an observation tower senses her and summons a Safeguard pack to eliminate the threat. With her companions dead and all escape routes blocked, the only thing that can save her now is the sudden arrival of Kiri the Wanderer, on his quest for the Net Terminal Genes, the key to restoring order to the world. I frequently freak out when it comes to Science-Fiction and nothing makes sense. This film doesn't make sense - in my own perception of science-fiction - Still, I have to give this one a 9 out of 10, simply because of the beauty and style, these filmmakers mastered in such a phenomenal way.<br/><br/>Most of the joy of watching a film depends on your own expectance. I didn't expect anything from this one, and I was blown away. The lighting, the movements, the action, and the drama, worked for me.<br/><br/>I always hated Japanese animated films for the bad frame-rate, and the strange movements, and this film still has that, but now, they added depth-of-field, great sound, some pretty amazing imagery, and epic explosions.<br/><br/>Still, the story is not as simple as a Michael Bay Film. So, the gigantic proportions, and mind-blowing explosions kinda work.<br/><br/>I must say that I did not watch the film in one go, but I stopped it ever now and again, simply to watch the scenery, and admire the artwork.<br/><br/>Japanese art, in this film, is definitely worth a watch if you care for such things as light, boom, silence, and wonderful design.<br/><br/>The story? I usually care, but it's Japanese, and what do I know about that? Nothing. So, 9 out of 10 for this wonderful experience.<br/><br/>Make up your own mind ;) <br/><br/>But watch it! Definitely! Watch! This movie has stunning visuals, however, there are too many holes in the plot and everything was happening way too fast. This is a good one time watch kind off movie. The script is just too shallow, sit could have bee way better than it was. It just seems like all they really focused on was the graphics and visuals and the script was done in like thirty minutes. Definitely would consider another movie with a more in depth story.
